Former Iraqi President Talabani Dead at 83

Jalal Talabani , who has died in a Berlin hospital aged 83, became in 2005 the first elected president of Iraq, and did as much as anyone at the time to reconcile its warring factions. He stepped down in 2014, two years after suffering a stroke that led him to seek medical treatment in Germany.
