14 January 2020

147* - Marcus Stoinis' unbeaten 147 is now the highest individual score in the Big Bash League surpassing D'Arcy Short's unbeaten 122 for the Hurricanes against Brisbane Heat in the 2017-18 season.

The performance from Stoinis was staggering, with the Australia limited-overs global cracking 13 fours and eight sixes, including a maximum from the final ball of the innings at the MCG.

It was also the highest partnership for any wicket in BBL history.

Stoinis and Cartwright stitched a record-breaking partnership of 207 runs for the first wicket. In bowling, Clint Hinchliffe turned out to be their best bowler, who registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/20. Jackson Bird and Steve O'Keefe were particularly effective a really good batting surface, not allowing the batsmen to free their arms. Stoinis sat deep in his crease and the Sixers failed to get their length full enough. Cartwright then punished the full balls, thumping them through the line down the ground. The Melbourne Stars player apologized after being found guilty of breaching Cricket Australia's code of conduct and penalised AUD 7,500 (USD 5,200). He struck six fours and three sixes. Ben Dwarshuis scored an unbeaten 17-ball 42 at the end to push the Sixers to 175/7. The former muscled 41 runs off 25 balls with four boundaries and two sixes whereas latter scored 32 runs.

Only once had a side ever chased more in the BBL, when the Hobart Hurricanes mowed down 223 against the Melbourne Renegades. The Sixers went via the same route in the powerplay losing two wickets attempting to go all guns blazing. Stoinis' knock is also the highest individual T20 score on Australian soil going past Shane Watson's 124* for Australia in the 2016 Sydney T20I against India.
