13, 2018, Zimmerman is expected to enter a no contest plea to resolve a misdemeanor charge of stalking a private investigator in the latest George Zimmerman is filing a $100 million lawsuit against Trayvon Martin's family and officials involved in prosecuting him for the teenager's 2012 killing, after a filmmaker known for conspiracy theories claimed that a key witness in the case was faked, according to a South Florida attorney.
"The lawsuit claimed there was defamation by Martin's attorney and a book publishing company, "malicious prosecution" by prosecutors, and a conspiracy by Martin's family and a lawyer to use a false witness with a made-to-order false storyline to try to fraudulently create probable cause to" get Zimmerman convicted.
Zimmerman shot and killed the 17-year-old Martin in their Sanford neighborhood in 2012. Prosecutors said Zimmerman profiled, pursued and killed Trayvon after calling police to report him as suspicious.
Ben Crump, the attorney for the Martins, released a statement following the filing of the lawsuit.More news: FA Cup third-round draw: Liverpool face Everton, Arsenal take on Leeds
"I have every confidence that this unfounded and reckless lawsuit will be revealed for what it is - another failed attempt to defend the indefensible and a shameless attempt to profit off the lives and grief of others", Crump said in a statement Wednesday to the Miami Herald.
Both Jeantel and Eugene are also named as defendants in the suit. However, Gilbert puts forth in the film that another friend of Trayvon's, Rachel Jeantel, appeared before prosecutors and said that she was "Diamond Eugene" and provided false statements to incriminate Zimmerman.
Zimmerman claimed that when he approached Martin the teen attacked him, so he fired his weapon in self defense. They also allege that Jeantel lied repeatedly in court, while Martin's supposed "real girlfriend", Brittany Diamond Eugene, "refused to bear false witness" against Zimmerman.
Zimmerman, Klayman, and Gilbert will host a press conference Thursday afternoon at the Coral Gables Art Cinema.More news: Katy Perry Showcases Her "Cozy Little Christmas" in New Music Video
"This plaintiff continues to display a callous disregard for everyone but himself, revictimizing individuals whose lives were shattered by his own misguided actions", he continued.
Klayman is a conservative activist who founded the watchdog group, Judicial Watch. Earlier this year, a legal ethics panel of the Washington bar association called for Klayman to be suspended from practicing law for almost three years for "egregious" misconduct after he harassed a woman who rejected his romantic advances.
Klayman told a reporter Wednesday that Zimmerman "faces daily threats and suffers from PTSD". His death spurred a series of protests, and can be argued as one of the most significant moments in the Black Lives Matter movement.More news: Top House Democrat wants Mueller findings in impeachment articles against Trump
