Gamecock volleyball earns back-to-back NCAA tournament berths

The Cardinals are making their first tournament appearance since 2011. The Huskers played Northern Iowa in 2017 during the regular season in Omaha, dropping a 3-1 match.

The Nebraska volleyball team was selected as the No. 5 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night and will host the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds at the Bob Devaney Sports Center next weekend. Senior Mikayla Shields and junior Mikayla Robinson were also both named All-SEC honorees Sunday.

Six Southeastern Conference teams made the tournament: No. 9 Kentucky, No. 10 Florida, No. 13 Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia and SC.

St. John's earned its third overall NCAA berth by winning the Big East Conference Tournament this past weekend. Tickets went on sale to the general public Monday for all-session tickets, and 9 a.m. Wednesday is when single-session tickets will be available. In 2018, SC advanced to the second round, defeating Colorado in the first round before falling to No. 2 seed Minnesota. The Wolverines earned an at-large bid from the NCAA Selection Committee.

Should ISU win, the Cyclones would play the victor of No. 7 Minnesota and Fairfield on Saturday night at 7 p.m. A&M finished 12-1 in matches played at Reed Arena this season, its best home finish since 2000.

Kennesaw State is 22-8, including a 13-3 mark in league play, and earned the ASUN's automatic bid.

Also earning an at-large bid into the 2019 NCAA Lexington Regional was MI out of the Big Ten. BU earned its eighth NCAA tournament bid in school history and will make its fourth-straight appearance.
