Apple announces its best iOS apps and games of 2019

Apple claimed that apps and games "help simplify our lives and express our creativity, connect us to friends, family and the world beyond, and of course, have fun". In short, the app uses computer vision tech to auto-detect the kind of scene you're shooting, stabilize the frame, and capture a long exposure by stacking multiple frames together in the same way most long-exposure apps on smartphones operate.

According to Apple, the App Store is the world's safest and most vibrant app marketplace, with over half a billion people visiting each week.

The digital notebook app, Flow by Moleskine, has been awarded iPad app of the year, while Mac app of the year goes to Affinity Publisher - a rival to Adobe InDesign that makes pro-level layout design affordable.

On the iPhone, it was Sky: Children of the Light, which was awarded the best game of the year whereas on iPad it was Hyper Light Drifter that won the honours.

Apple TV: The Explorers - A collaborative "visual inventory" of photos and other media featuring wildlife and landscapes.

Mac: GRIS - Developer Nomada Studio's artful meditation on mental health, grief, and hope presented as a side-scrolling platformer.

"The 2019 App Store Best Apps and Games winners reflect our global desire for connection, creativity and fun", said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. These include selections for best app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, as well as top picks in books and podcasts.

You can find the rest of the Best of 2019 apps here. For instance, in gaming, it was all about reimagining blockbusters. Games such as Mario Kart Tour, Minecraft Earth, and Call of Duty: Mobile.
