Late last night, news broke that Florida State legend Deion Sanders is getting involved in the head coaching job at his alma mater.

The eight-time Pro Bowl player, two-time Super Bowl champion and 1988 Jim Thorpe Award victor presented to the nation's top college defensive back has been inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame. If nothing else, it could keep the eyes of some casual college football fans on how this unfolds.

Though Sanders, 52, has coached at the high school level, he has never coached for a college program or professional team and has spent the vast majority of his post-athletic career serving as a TV analyst, first for CBS Sports and now for NFL Network.

The Hall of Famer attained All-American honors in 1987 and 1988, and he was also named the Jim Thorpe Award victor as the top defensive again in the nation all through the '88 year. His No. 2 jersey is retired by the Seminoles, and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He played in 641 games as an outfielder for four teams over a 13-year span - the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. He went on to be the No. 5 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft. To this day, he remains the only professional athlete to ever play in both the World Series and Super Bowl.

Sanders, 52, has no college football or NFL coaching experience, but has coached at the high school level.
