ABC cancels 'Fresh Off the Boat,' sets finale for February

10 November 2019

Any show that runs for six years has a lot to be proud of, especially in a world where there are so many shows that it can be tough for any of them individually to find all that much of a place.

ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, the longest-running sitcom about an Asian-American family in broadcast television history, will end this season, a source close to the show told Vulture.

However, since the most recent announcement regarding the conclusion of the "Fresh Off the Boat" series, Twitter users have been roasting Wu for her previous outbursts, joking that the actress was finally free.

"I'm so proud of the show and what we've accomplished over the past six seasons", showrunner Nahnatchka Khan wrote on Friday (08Nov19) in a statement announcing the sitcom's cancellation.

The show about a couple and their three children in 1990s Florida is based on chef Eddie Huang's memoir of the same name.

The last episode of "Fresh Off the Boat" will air February 21.

In addition to Wu, Fresh Off the Boat starred Randall Park, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, Lucille Soong, Chelsey Crisp and Ray Wise.

ABC and 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the show, declined to comment.

Wu has previously been outspoken about her disdain for the comedy, even responding "Ugh". Nahnatchka Khan and her brilliant creative team have created an unforgettable series with an Asian-American family front and center, something that hadn't been done in two decades.

The series' stars include Randall Park and Constance Wu, who play Huang's parents. "We'll miss the Huang family and are eternally grateful for the incredibly heartfelt stories they have told these past six seasons", Burke said.

Per the outlet, citing a source, the network informed the cast and crew that there would not be an order of new episodes for the series and that the 14th and 15th episodes of Season 6 would serve as the series finale. However, she later clarified in a tweet that she was not upset due to the renewal itself, but because she had to give up a project she was "passionate" about taking on.

"I've gotten to fully explore my character and I know her like the back of my hand".
