El Camino star Robert Forster dead at 78 after battle with cancer

He made his film debut opposite Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor in John Huston's Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967). Sadly, his death comes on the very day that El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie premiered on Netflix, where he reprised his role as Ed, a vacuum salesman with deep connections to the criminal underground.

Robert appeared in over 100 films and television series.

"I never forgot how kind and generous he was to a young kid just starting out in Hollywood", Cranston wrote in the tweet. "Every time it reached a lower level I thought I could tolerate, it dropped some more, and then some more". I'll take you to my fave place for breakfast.

His role in Jackie Brown even earned him an Oscar nomination in 1997.

"And that's when I realised I was going to get another shot at a career", Forster said.

Forster in Haskell Wexler's Medium Cool. "He gave me a career back and the last 14 years have been fabulous". He'd lose the supporting actor Oscar that year to Robin Williams for "Good Will Hunting". He also forged a working relationship with David Lynch, appearing in the director's 2001 hit Mulholland Drive and in the 2017 Twin Peaks revival.

Forster played Tim Allen's father in Last Man Standing, a rare comedy appearance, and played the father of a comatose mom in Alexander Payne's The Descendants, which was nominated for ensemble acting prizes by SAG and the Gotham awards. He had appeared in the wildly popular Breaking Bad series.

Forster is survived by his children: Bobby, Elizabeth, Kate and Maeghen; his grandchildren: Tess, Liam, Jack and Olivia; and longtime partner Denise Grayson, Variety reported.
