Robert Mugabe remains our icon, says Mnangagwa at Blue Roof

At Blue Roof, Mugabe's 25-bedroom mansion in Harare's posh Borrowdale suburb, Zimbabwe's opposition leader paid his respects to the man who had been his bitter political foe. His body was received by that country's head of state, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and a host of other dignitaries.

While consultations between Government and the Mugabe Family on the burial arrangements continue, the Media are advised to be particularly wary of false material circulating in the social media on the same, and as far as possible to rely on authentic communication from Government, its designated officials, and from authorized spokesperson (s) of the Mugabe Family.

Zimbabwe ex-president Robert Mugabe's family and the government appeared to be deadlocked on Thursday over his final resting place after relatives snubbed a plan for him to be buried at a national monument.

He died in a hospital in Singapore last Friday, aged 95.

"We have no idea where we will bury him yet", said Mnangagwa at the Mugabe family home of Thursday.

"As the immediate family of the late Mugabe, we are ready and willing to work with the government of Zimbabwe to develop a programme for the funeral and burial of the late Mugabe which is in conformance to his wishes on how his mortal remains will be interred".

His body is being prepared to lie in state at a football stadium in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare.

"The chiefs in Zvimba still regard him as a chief and in terms of tradition, they are the ones that determine where is he going to be buried, how is he going to be buried, the procedures that must be followed in his burial".

Addressing thousands of people including Zanu PF party supporters, immediate family members and government officials after receiving Mugabe's body, Mnangagwa hailed his former boss as a revolutionary leader who whose contribution led to the independence of Zimbabwe.

Grace Mugabe is expected to stay beside the casket the entire time. His body was returned back to the capital city of Harare on Thursday. The state preferred the National Heroes' Acre in Harare.

However on Wednesday Leo Mugabe told The Associated Press on Wednesday that relations are good between the family and Mnangagwa.
