Sixers’ Amir Johnson caught using his phone on the bench

16 April 2019

Lakers and National Basketball Association reporter for ESPN.

How's this for a blown call: Amir Johnson was busted showing Philadelphia 76ers All-Star teammate Joel Embiid his cell phone on the bench late in a Game 1 playoff loss. Only there was plenty of cause for trepidation when examining his team.

"It's not something that we are about", Brown said.

After the contest, 76ers coach Brett Brown commented on the situation, telling reporters "it's completely unacceptable". And what about that collection of talent?

Sky Go is also available on a number of platforms including Amazon Fire devices, iPad, Mac computers and laptops, Playstation 3, PS4 and Xbox One. The Sixers missed 22 of 25 3-pointers. "I guarantee if we're winning, they're not booing, so that's the way to change it. Let's just go out there and win on Monday".

Now things get interesting.

After the contest, Dudley took to Twitter to quote a lyric from the 2013 song "Tuscan Leather" by rapper Drake, a line that clowned "bench players talking like starters".

Brooklyn isn't the team that has played less than a dozen games with its starting unit together. It's been reported that the team is waiting until after practice today to make a decision.

It's tough to say the same about his team.

The NBA Playoffs begin on Saturday afternoon for the Sixers in a Round 1 matchup with the Nets, but they're not exactly off to a great start.

Embiid is clearly not right.

While most fans didn't expect the Nets to be competing for a spot in the playoffs, the 76ers were seen as one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference with LeBron James leaving for the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I thought that Joel looked like he hadn't played for a while yet was still dominant", Brown said. We all want him to be smart. "I got to find ways to help Tobias".

Embiid grimaced at times in dead-ball situations, and he had a chance to assess how his body was feeling without adrenaline pumping or the music blaring at Wells Fargo Center. Ed Davis came of the bench to add 12 points and 16 rebounds in a surprise performance.

"I mean I'm always putting it on me to help him".

The 76ers will have to rebound in Game 2 in order to avoid heading to Brooklyn in an 0-2 hole.

Both Harris and general manager Elton Brand described Embiid as "a warrior".

Butler kept the Sixers in the game with a sensational first half that showed why the franchise surrendered so much to land the four-time All-Star. Then again, there's a chance he doesn't. Simmons had just nine points and was an abysmal 1-for-5 from the charity stripe. "Now that we've attracted them into our system, we're going to work really hard at keeping them around for a while", Harris said.
