As Joy Behar said she could be back next week, Goldberg snuck out from the side of the stage and set the audience and her hosts into a frenzy.
"The scariest moment was hearing my doctor say to me, 'You do realize how close to death you were?'" she said.
Whoopi Goldberg provided an update about her health via a prerecorded video on "The View's" Friday morning's episode, telling her fans since being diagnosed with pneumonia she 'came very close to leaving the earth'. "The advocate "said 'I really don't know.' I was like, 'well, this can't be the first time somebody has come in with this".
Goldberg thanked the press, including TMZ, for keeping the details of her illness quiet and not chasing her down in the hospital. McCain said. "You can not leave this show".

And Goldberg was happy to be there, if only to clear up some misconceptions about her absence. I saw her last night and she's very amusing still, and we had big laughs. "I am here. I am up and moving around - not as fast as I'd like to be, but I am okay". "I am OK. I'm not dead". "Good news, I didn't". "And the people who are saying "no" to you are not doctors, they are people looking at algorithms". Even people who are not huge fans of mine have actually been saying nice things bout me.
"Ladies, I can not wait to see y'all", she added, addressing her fellow panelists. "And it got me to thinking: 'Why is it that I've been paying insurance for nearly 60 years and it hasn't rolled over, you know what I mean?"
Goldberg has co-hosted The View since 2007.
"She's not feeling well", Behar said during the broadcast.
Goldberg said she had been coughing since November, which was the early sign of her illness. I saw her last night and she's very amusing still, and we had big laughs. "She's getting there, she's on the mend".More news: Parents Of R. Kelly's Girlfriend Say They "Take Responsibility"
The moderator has been MIA after a brutal battle with pneumonia, but surprised everyone - including her cohosts - at the top of the show on Thursday.
Over the next week and a half, she'll start to return to the show on a more regular basis, she said, including Monday.
"There are all these conspiracy theories on the internet that she's not really sick and she's secretly preparing to host the Oscars", she continued.
