Israel says uncovers Hezbollah unit led by notorious commander

"Authorities subjected non-Israeli citizens in Jerusalem and the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights to the same laws as Israeli citizens", this year's report reads.

That points to a "continuation of the U.S. administration's hostile approach to Palestinian people", said senior Palestinian Authority official Nabil Abu Rudeineh.

"Palestinian residents of the West Bank and Gaza detained on security grounds fell under military jurisdiction as applied by Israel to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, even if detained inside Israel".

The document also suggests that the entire city of Jerusalem is a part of Israel.

Last month, Republican lawmakers in both chambers of Congress introduced bills "to ensure that Israel retains control of the Golan Heights".

In a report by the State Department meant to detail data regarding human rights around the globe in 2018, the USA has made a decision to alter the words it uses to describe the situation in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel, opting for what seems to be more neutral language.

The Hezbollah cell is "just the tip of the iceberg", Netanyahu, who also serves as defense minister, said on Wednesday.

An IDF spokesperson said on Wednesday, "We're not going to allow Hezbollah to establish a terror infrastructure on the Golan capable of striking Israeli civilians".

The word "occupation" appears only three times in the report, but in two instances it refers to jobs when addressing occupational discrimination and labour rights. "Israel will continue to do all that's necessary to defend itself".

The U.S. and global bodies have never recognized the territory as Israeli, instead referring to it as occupied by Israel.

"We hold the Syrian regime responsible for anything that happens inside Syria aimed at Israel".

Israel's army said Wednesday it has uncovered a unit created by Hezbollah across the ceasefire line in the Syrian Golan Heights and led by a commander previously jailed over an attack on U.S. forces. He moved the U.S. Embassy to the contested holy city from Tel Aviv a year ago.

It comes as yet another sign of Washington's growing support of Israel: earlier this week, US Senator Lindsey Graham said, after a tour of the disputed region, that he would push the Trump administration to formally recognise it as part of Israel. "I frankly can not imagine a situation in which the Golan Heights is not part of Israel forever", Friedman told the right-wing Israel Hayom newspaper at the time.
