Mandy Moore, 34, accused her ex-husband and former music collaborator, Ryan Adams, 44, of "psychologically abusive behavior" when she was still launching her singing career in her 20s, according to The New York Times' account on February 13. R. Kelly has been accused of sexual misconduct with women and girls but has denied the allegations.
Actress Mandy Moore, star of the hit drama This Is Us, was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016.
The Times spoke with "seven women and more than a dozen associates" of Adams in establishing "a pattern of manipulative behavior in which Adams dangled career opportunities while simultaneously pursuing female artists for sex". Their report describes Adams as reacting vengefully to women-including Moore, Bridgers and Jaye-who rejected his advances, retaliating with harassment and abuse both verbal and emotional.
A 20-year-old female musician said Adams, 44, had inappropriate conversations with her while she was 15 and 16.
The singer and actor Mandy Moore, Adams's ex-wife, also told the newspaper he was psychologically abusive: "He would always tell me, 'You're not a real musician, because you don't play an instrument'".More news: Amazon is acquiring WiFi router company Eero
"His controlling behaviour essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time - my entire mid-to-late 20s", she said, having released no new music since before their marriage. But through Ryan's lawyer, Andrew B. Bettler, the musician-songwriter said these were "extremely serious and outlandish accusations", and that he did not have the "power to make or break careers".
In response to Adams's repeated pleas that she tell him she was 18 - "You have to convince me", he wrote - Ava at times said she was.
Adams also weighed in himself, tweeting out an apology to anyone he has ever hurt - "however unintentionally".
"I am not a flawless man and I have made many mistakes".
A third message read, "As someone who has always tried to spread joy through my music and my life, hearing that some people believe I caused them pain saddens me greatly".More news: Westbrook savours breaking long-standing triple-double record
Moore said, "What you experience with him - the treatment, the destructive, manic sort of back and forth behavior - feels so exclusive".
The woman all said that they finally agreed to come forward after realizing that they were not alone and that Adams had allegedly treated others as bad as he treated them. Adams responded roughly an hour after its publication. I am resolved to work to be the best man I can be. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I guess it's too late to change it now", she sings, later adding: "You said when you met me you were bored.
Paste has reached out to representatives for Adams for further comment. Adams reportedly questioned Ava's age, but didn't seem entirely convinced - Adams allegedly wrote to her in November 2014: "I would get in trouble if someone knew we talked like this".More news: Ramos to make 600th Real Madrid appearance
