Browns will have zero-tolerance policy with Hunt, says GM

14 February 2019

Cleveland announced on Monday it had signed Hunt, who was released by the Chiefs on December 1 after a video showed him kicking and pushing a woman in a hotel. If he is signed by a club, the clubs understand that he will go on the commissioner's exempt list at that point in time until the discipline process has concluded - whether there is discipline or not discipline, when we finish the investigation and make a determination. Hunt, who sought treatment and counseling, could still be suspended by the league under its personal conduct policy for the incident and two others that surfaced after he was released by the Chiefs.

Hunt, 23, had established himself as one of the NFL's most electrifying ball carriers before the Chiefs cut him for lying about the hotel incident.

On Monday, the Browns, who seemed to finally emerge from years of gloom, doom and dysfunction by winning seven games behind rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield this past season, signed Hunt to a one-year contract.

Dorsey selected Hunt in the third round of the 2017 draft and the Willoughby South High School and Toledo product wasted little time showing the league what a dynamic player he is on the field.

In four seasons with the Browns, Johnson has seen a similar workload both in the air and ground with very different results. We don't know a lot of details.

The Cleveland Browns have made a controversial signing. He is not a prototypical National Football League quarterback at just 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, but his skills make him an intriguing option. The Browns released Monday in which he said his actions were "wrong and inexcusable", and declaring, "I am committed to following the necessary steps to learn and to be a better and healthier person from this situation".

The NFL is investigating a total of three incidents involving Hunt, including the one last February, but Dorsey did not see their findings as problematic.

"First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions past year". I also understand the expectations that the Browns have clearly laid out and that I have to earn my way back to the NFL. We hope Hunt is committed to being a better person, that he realizes he absolutely can't strike a woman, that he will emerge from a awful 2018 as a different man. If Dorsey believed that Hunt's being a part of the Browns could provide him structure and incentive to stay on track, he did not take the opportunity to detail that in his press conference. However, they also believe it was a random act by a good-hearted young man who feels remorseful and deserves another chance. "This will be a day-to-day thing in terms of earning trust". Sure, they face some negative headlines now and they will certainly get some pushback if and when Hunt is cleared to play, but sooner rather than later that will eventually die down. The problem with the Texans run game isn't so much Lamar Miller, who earned his first Pro Bowl in 2018 as he rushed for 973 yards and five touchdowns on 210 carries for Houston.
