Employees are being encouraged to take time out of their working day to have conversations about mental health, and to attend one of the many staff drop-in sessions taking place throughout the county.

Councillor Janet Willis, Cabinet Member for Customers and Transformation, said: "Around 15% of those in work in England have symptoms of a mental health problem and people with a mental health condition are three times more likely to have a long term period of sickness".

Dame Vera said: "Time to Talk Day is the ideal opportunity to reinforce that it's good to talk openly about mental health and the help that's available".

"We know it's not always easy to open up about mental health, but talking to someone can make a huge difference". Furthermore, just one in five reported an improvement in workplace training to help manage their own mental health (20 percent) or to help them support colleagues dealing with mental health challenges (19 percent).

Time to Talk Day, which was established six years ago, asks everyone to have a conversation about mental health to help break the stigma that can surround mental health problems.

Around one in four people in the United Kingdom experiences mental health problems with young men, in particular being identified as a vulnerable demographic.

"Encouraging people to have open, honest discussions is vital in ensuring individuals, at any business level, receive the support they need", she said. The data also shows that mental health issues have overtaken all other areas of traditional concern for employees, including: work stress, relationships, and general health issues.

Let's use Time to Talk Day as a chance to meaningfully engage with friends and family by talking about mental health.
