Steve Pearce Named 2018 World Series MVP

29 October 2018

Boston's Alex Cora, in his first year as a manager, is the first Puerto Rican manager to take a team to - and now win - the World Series. He won his third straight start Sunday and became the first pitcher to beat Cy Young winners in the finale of an LCS and the World Series in the same year.

Clayton Kershaw, who may have played his final game in a Dodgers uniform, took the loss.

Cora, who said, "We felt that we had no energy, actually none whatsoever", credited that to Hill's mound craftiness. "We're very excited to try to come here and finish it".

The Boston comeback was a team effort. A pinch-hit homer by Mitch Moreland in the seventh got them three runs. I don't think he was privy to the conversation. "And thankfully we did".

Hill kept the Boston Red Sox off the scoreboard for 6 1/3 innings before he was pulled by Roberts. "To win this whole thing, it's not easy".

Sale was given the ninth inning and he struck out the side to end the game.

"Oh, my god, he was mad at us", said infielder Brock Holt, who heard the yelling first from the dugout tunnel.

It's not surprising to see random critical tweets from the president anymore.

Cora joked that his English wasn't good enough to know what Sale was saying.

"I know Rich did everything he could", Roberts said.

"I wouldn't say 'nervous, ' " Floro said.

Pearce was named MVP of Boston's five-game win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, clubbing three homers and driving in eight runs during the series.

Roberts has been manager of the Dodgers since 2016.

Price said winning the World Series was the whole reason he came to Boston. He is 9-10 with a 4.32 ERA in 30 post-season appearances, a huge drop from his 153-69 record and 2.39 ERA during the regular season.

Pearce is the fifth Boston player with a multihomer game in the World Series in Red Sox history, and the first since Rico Petrocelli in Game 6 in 1967. Red Sox 4, Dodgers 2.

"It is incredible how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through nearly 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever (s) who get shellacked", Trump tweeted to his 55.4 million followers.

The Dodgers turned to Kenley Jansen in the eighth for the second straight game. He continues to be a big contributor for the Sox since being acquired in June from Toronto. "And, again, we've got to do a better job of picking him up". Nobody noticed it. And it was a huge baseball trade for us'.

I appreciate everything about what [Eovaldi] did last night.

Roberts and Hill talked in the sixth, with the 38-year-old left-hander telling his manager to keep an eye on him. 4 run lead gone. Trump criticized the decision to remove Hill from the contest, calling it a "big mistake."

The Dodgers did make it a bit interesting in the ninth, getting a two-run homer by Kike Hernandez.

The All-Star closer served up a one-out homer to Steve Pearce that tied the game at 4-all. Enjoy Game 5, baseball fans, because it could be our last until spring training.
