Elizabeth Smart said she's been assured the woman who helped kidnap her when she was 14 and stood by as she was sexually assaulted will be closely watched when she's released from prison.
"She would encourage him to rape me", Smart said in an interview with CBS.
Yet, despite the Utah parole board deeming Barzee unfit for release, she will be released Wednesday because state law dictates inmates must be released at the end of their sentence.
She said she feels concerned for herself and the community as she remembers being mistreated during her nine months in captivity with Barzee and her husband, Brian David Mitchell, who kidnapped Smart from her Salt Lake City bedroom in 2002. Meanwhile, her estranged husband remains in prison serving a life sentence for Smart's abduction.
Barzee was denied parole in July for the second time because she refused to be evaluated by a prison psychologist. "So, do I believe she I unsafe?" And when I woke up the next morning, I mean, my face and my hair were completely crusted to the ground.
"And I do believe that he will do the job to the best of his ability".More news: Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser wants an FBI probe before testifying
Smart, now 30, urged officials to reconsider releasing the woman who assisted in her kidnapping and rape, saying she's still a threat to the community. "And as soon as she messes up, which I've been reassured that she will, she will be taken back to federal prison for the duration of the five years", she said.
"She's got nowhere to go", she said.
Part of Barzee's parole condition states she can not have any contact with Smart or any of Smart's family members.
She continued, "I will never be that person to ask those stupid questions".
"The feeling that kind of radiated from her, it just was dark".
Most likely, she will live alone in a private residence and follow standard release conditions plus a special condition that she must participate in a mental health treatment program, he said. So far, the allegations against Barzee carrying the book in prison has been unconfirmed. "She won't be homeless". She'll be on probation for 60 months and she is not to have any direct or indirect contact with Smart.
For the next nine months, Smart was raped nearly daily by Mitchell.
They were unsuccessful. Mitchell, who believed in polygamy, might have been attempting to build a collection of wives, authorities said. Smart was walking alongside Barzee and Mitchell when police stopped them.
She is expecting her third baby in November.
Smart has said that she's now at peace, and she doesn't regret what's happened.
