Adam McQuaid Traded From Bruins To Rangers

15 September 2018

"It's a tough day - very disappointing news", said winger Brad Marchand, now one of only five Bruins remaining from the 2010-11 Stanley Cup team.

A second-round pick (No. 55) by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2005, McQuaid has 66 points (13 goals, 53 assists) in 462 National Hockey League games, all with the Bruins.

McQuaid, 32 next month, faced the likely prospect of making more contributions off the ice in the coming season.

General Manager Don Sweeney was effusive in his praise for the lifelong Bruin.

"An incredible guy off the ice and in the room", he said.

"Some teams reached out to me (about acquiring McQuaid) right around that July 1 time frame, so I sort of had things I'd explored". A fourth-round pick (No. 93) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2007 NHL Draft, Kampfer has 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 166 games with the Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers and Rangers. He also skated in 23 postseason games to help lead the Bruins to the 2011 Stanley Cup. "A lot went into it, and I was there every step of the way". The news has hit social media and reactions have pretty much stated the same thing: the Bruins lost a tough player.

McQuaid's departure, however, alleviates a potentially complicated situation on defense as the B's enter what is bound to be a complicated, two-continent pre-season. With the amount of young guys and the depth being built up in Boston, McQuaid may not have had a regular spot on the roster.

"It's a very hard day", said Sweeney. Sad to see you go Quaider and all the best in NY.
