Even Hollywood wives feel aggrieved about child support

12 August 2018

According to reports, actor-producer Brad Pitt said on Wednesday that he has given his former wife, actress Angelina Jolie, more than $1 million, in court documents.

Jolie's attorney had said in a Tuesday court filing that Pitt had "paid no meaningful child support" since Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016.

"If Angelina Jolie really thinks Brad Pitt is a useless deadbeat dad, then what better way to prove it than to tell him to stuff his money where the sun don't shine and provide for her kids herself?" he asked. His camp hit back nearly immediately, insisting he had paid Jolie US$1.3 million in bills and even loaned her US$8 million to buy a new home.

"On Tuesday, Angelina's lawyer said in a filing: "[Brad] has a statutory duty to pay child support. As we reported, Brad has paid Angelina $1.3 million in support over the last 2 years and she didn't complain until late last month.

Insiders claim that Pitt's fortune is far larger than Jolie's, despite the fact that she's made millions over the course of her career in Hollywood.

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain host, who is notorious for publicising his sometimes less than complimentary opinions on celebrities, took aim at the actress, 43, after her lawyer said Brad, 54, had not "regularly sustained" payments for their children's expenses.

Pitt's court filing said it was the actor, not Jolie, who first made the request to speed up the divorce.

Many divorcees will relate to Jolie's situation, even if the sums in her case are higher.

The divorce filing, citing irreconcilable differences, triggered a bitter custody dispute during which Pitt was investigated and cleared of child abuse.

Jolie's representatives did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday.

Pitt's response said that a status conference that is already scheduled would serve the same objective.

This definitely bodes well for Jolie, though Pitt probably doesn't owe her much because they were only officially married for two years. Jolie Pitt now has primary custody of their children. Jolie could receive money from back in 2004 but only if they signed an agreement.
