Chilwell insists Maguire won't quit Leicester in January

Claude Puel says the fitness of Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy will be assessed before a decision is made on Leicester City's squad to face Manchester United.

The 25-year-old - who was bought last summer from Hull City for £17million - is valued at around £80million by the Foxes.

The boss reserved praise for Harry Maguire who was subject to interest from United in the transfer window.

"I scored against United in the derby so it was a good experience and I am looking forward to hopefully doing it again". "It would have been a good reward for our play".

"It was awesome to see some young players from the Academy play some friendly games without the global players, it's a good feeling for the future of the Club". We gave our best, it was a hard team against a great team.

It has been reported that it would take a world-record bid for a defender, exceeding the £75million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk, to even tempt Leicester to sell Maguire.

"We will see what happens in his future but I am happy to keep Harry with us and I'm happy with his attitude in general".

The pair looked in good form in pre-season and it's now down to them to prove to Jose he doesn't need to sign a new centre-back. I think it is going to be a big season for the whole team and we are in good shape now.

"For us it (a Maguire transfer) is not possible. It is not serious".

Puel has welcomed the signing of Croatian defender Filip Benkovic from Dinamo Zagreb and has his sights set on a place in the Premier League's top six.

The Premier League curtain-raiser against United is expected to mark the debuts of the Foxes other major signings of the summer in Jonny Evans and James Maddison with both having recovered from injury.

"Of course it's better, this pre-season, but we have different difficulties after the World Cup".
