'World's Ugliest Dog' Zsa Zsa from Minnesota passes away

11 July 2018

A nine-year-old English bulldog has died just weeks after winning the title of World's Ugliest Dog.

Jesse Larson, who owns the dog with Megan Brainard, told Fox 9 Zsa Zsa passed away in her sleep overnight Tuesday morning.

"I picked Zsa Zsa up and took her outside and laid her down in the grass", the pet owner shared. She lived life as an underdog, spending five years in a puppy mill before being rescued.

Zsa Zsa, who made worldwide headlines when she won the World's Ugliest Dog competition in San Francisco less about two weeks ago, made headlines again with news of her death.

Just over two weeks after she was crowned the World's Ugliest Dog, Zsa Zsa, an English bulldog with a penchant for pink and a perpetually lolling tongue, has died. She called Zsa Zsa's passing "devastating".

Her muscular, rounded front legs, crooked teeth, large underbite and floppy tongue won over the competition's judges, who granted her family the $1,500 prize for winning the contest.

"I picked Zsa Zsa up and took her outside and laid her down in the grass", she said.

Ms Brainard and Zsa Zsa drove for 30 hours from their home in Minnesota to compete in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest in California last month. We were all saying our goodbyes and Mareslie went right over and gave her a kiss. He says she appeared fine the day before, so it was a shock. It was attended by Brainard, her husband and their one-year-old daughter, Mareslie.

Zsa Zsa's family held a farewell ceremony for her in their back yard.
