11 July 2018

Kraft (70) wound up second, while Jason Kokrak (67) and Brandt Snedeker (64) tied for third at 13 under.

Harold Varner and Kelly Kraft are looking to add to the crop of first-time winners on the PGA Tour in West Virginia. He had made 158 starts and played 528 rounds on the PGA Tour since his last win, racking up nine second- and eight third-place finishes since his most recent victory six years, nine months and nine days ago. He had a huge smile on his face and was not embarrassed to release a sigh of relief.

"It feels wonderful. I see the record every time on TV - the most top fives, the most top 10s without a win", he told CBS. "It s nice to get that second trophy". I got it just over the ridge. "Failed so many times...and for some reason I felt like it was my day".

"The amount of close calls I've had, and disappointments I've had ... walking off the 18th hole, and into the locker room, thinking about it on the drive back to the hotel". "I mean, I had a attractive, lovely tee shot". Everything was going my way, and it was nice to have that big lead going up to the last hole and enjoying the moment.

"Most importantly today I kept within myself", said Na, whose only blemish in his seven birdie round was a bogey on the par-four 11th.

The top four players not already exempt among the top 12 finishers will earn spots in the British Open at Carnoustie starting July 19. He amassed 17 top-five's since that win before breaking through this week at the Greenbrier.

"Mentally I think I'm just excited to play golf", he told the Golf Channel. "I'm pretty hungry. This is what you work for. Not playing flawless golf, Just going for targets and having fun with it", Varner said.

By the end of Friday's second round, though, the top of the leaderboard had thinned out a little bit. "I just know that I'm going to have to have a low one (Sunday)". I've never seen this course this hard.

With greens drying out in the afternoon, they shared an adventure on No. 15. It was pretty hard out there. "Playing from the fairways out here, you give yourself a good shot".

Varner has not won on the PGA Tour, but he has won internationally as he claimed the Australian PGA Championship back in 2016. He was never a factor in the final round, winding up tied for 21st at 8 under.

Bubba Watson shot 65 and was among three players at 11 under.

Phil Mickelson, in his first tournament since his weird US Open final day meltdown on the 13th green, was penalised two shots on Sunday for improving his line of play.
