China wants UN Security Council to lift sanctions on North Korea

14 June 2018

The pair promised in the document to "build a lasting and stable peace regime" on the Korean Peninsula.

Kim Jong-un affirmed an "unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" in a sign document on Tuesday, President Donald Trump says.

The broad agreement was light on specifics, largely reiterating previous public statements and past commitments.

News photographers captured photos of the broad, two-page agreement, which was not immediately released by the White House. This side of the commander-in-chief came out during his meeting with North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un when Trump showed an action movie-style trailer he had made for the occasion. But since it was Donald Trump who raised that spectre, giving him credit for dispelling it would be like calling a man a life-saver when second thoughts stay his hand from murder.

"The sanctions will come off when we are sure that the nukes are no longer a factor", Trump said in Singapore after his summit with Kim. Responding to questions, he said "absolutely" he would invite Kim to the White House. "They're still with me after all these years", Rodman said before saying the was thankful for his corporate sponsor.

The agreement has four main ingredients: the U.S. and North Korea agreed to establish new relations for the "peace and prosperity" of the two countries; the United States and North Korea agreed to work together to establish a "lasting and stable peace regime" on the Korean Peninsula; North Korea committed to work toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula; the USA and North Korea committed to recovering remains of people killed in the Korean War and repatriating remains that have been found. Toward the end of the meeting.

Following the summit, Trump sat down with ABC News's George Stephanopoulos and touted the great love North Koreans have for their leader.

"The North Koreans are freezing their ICBM and nuclear tests, and the Americans are freezing our military exercises with the South Koreans".

I thought it was well done, I showed it to you because that's the future, I mean, that could very well be the future. About eight of their representatives were watching it, and I thought they were fascinated by it. So we look nice and handsome and thin?

'You see that whenever they're exploding the canons into the ocean'.

Tuesday marked the first time a sitting U.S. President and a member of the Kim dynasty met face to face. Kim has been accused of horrific rights abuses against his people.

"Otto did not die in vain", Trump said as he discussed North Korea's human rights record. "I think nobody can doubt the extremely unique and important role China has played". And I'd like to be able to bring them back home.

The main cause for this criticism: In a press conference following the summit, Trump said the United States would stop the joint military exercises it conducts regularly with South Korea. We're at the beginning of a diplomatic process that will require patience, experience, and close coordination with our allies.

Kim's night tour of Singapore on the eve of the summit got an even brighter spotlight in the North Korean media, which aired video of him being received like a rock star by crowds of onlookers.

Trump had a 40-minute private talk with Kim (with translators present), followed by an expanded bilateral talk and working lunch.

Still, he left open the possibility of restarting the exercises should denuclearization talks with North Korea stall. "I am willing to do a lot of things to get them to give up their nuclear weapons and end their missile program".

But he said sanctions would remain in place for now and argued "we haven't given up anything".

Following a one-on-one meeting, both Trump and Kim signed an agreement that included a denuclearization recommitment from North Korea.
