Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from NY, said: "While the official name of the bid is United 2026, the three potential host nations are right now anything but united".

The tournament will spread 80 games involving 48 teams across this continent, from coast to coast.

Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal are Canadian candidate host cities for the men's soccer showcase, expanded to 48 teams for the 2026 tournament.

The bid process was not easy. President Trump's denigration of immigrants from Africa, Asia, and the Americas rattled voters from those countries. The U.S. hosted in 1994.

"The people of North America have always welcomed me". The White House even put its official stamp of approval on that, according to the New York Times.

Members of Fifa's World Cup bid evaluation task force said she had an undeclared family link with Morocco 2026 bid ambassador El Hadji Diouf. The organization is set to earn more than $6 billion in the four-year cycle tied to this year's World Cup, with an estimated profit exceeding $100 million. FIFA's pre-vote inspection reports had awarded Morocco 2.7 out of 5 as potential host with North America scored a 4.

But it's no secret that soccer politics don't work by the book.

Decio de Maria, President of Mexico Football Federation and Co-Chair of the United Bid, said: "We are grateful for the chance to bring to life FIFA's new vision for the future of football".

Every one of FIFA's 200-plus members holds a single vote, and regions tend to vote in blocks. "But when I was five years old, a country called Canada welcomed us in", he told the Congress.

The North American countries won with 134 votes, or 67 percent, against an upstart campaign from Morocco, which garnered 65 votes, in the Wednesday morning vote in Moscow. France, Italy, and the Netherlands were the heavyweights.

Herdman pointed to the performance of national team member Alphonso Davies, 17, who spoke to delegates ahead of their vote Wednesday, as representative of the quality of the young talent on his team.

The North American proposal had lined up high-profile backers, including soccer star David Beckham, who said that "the World Cup deserves to be in great places", and U.S. President Donald Trump, who combined support for the bid with a veiled threat to those that planned to vote for competing offers.
