Ireland: Polish man Mikolaj Wilk murdered in home invasion, partner seriously injured

A murder enquiry has been opened relating to the incident.

A man has died after being attacked by a gang in his home. They found Mr Wilk seriously inured with life threatening injuries and he was taken to Cork University Hospital, where despite the best efforts of the medical teams Mr Wilks died of his injuries.

The Gardai have opened a murder investigation into the killing of Wilk and are appealing for information from anyone in the area, who may have noticed suspicious or unusual activities that night.

Officers investigating the incident say they are now searching for the men behind the attack.

Mr Wilk was a Polish national who had settled with his partner, Elzbieta, at Maglin on the outskirts of Ballincollig.

Setting up a GoFundMe page to help the family, Ms Deryn said Mikolaj was "a caring husband and loving father", and asked for everyone to help his wife right now.

They say the group fled the scene in a auto, believed to be a BMW Three Series, which was later found burnt out at Inniskenny in Waterfall.

The couple's home now remains sealed off in order for a forensic examination to take place. One report on Twitter is saying there was a firearm found in the vehicle. Gardaí believe the auto was a BMW 3 series.

The Polish man, named as Mikołaj Wilk, ran a gardening business and had lived in Ireland for at least five years.
