South Korea Blindsided By Trump War Games Agreement

12 June 2018

A statement from South Korean President Moon Jae-in's palace, the Blue House, appeared to indicate that Seoul was not privy to Trump's decision on the exercises.

"We don't know what type of person the North Korean leader is negotiating with". Moon Seong Mook, a former South Korean military official, said Trump's comments on the drills confirmed what many in South Korea had feared all along _ that North Korea would attempt to drive a wedge between Washington and Seoul and gain substantial concessions from an unconventional U.S. president who thinks much less of the traditional alliance than his predecessors.

A spokeswoman for US military forces in Korea, meanwhile, said it had not received any direction to cease joint military drills.

Wang said in a statement earlier that China welcomed and supported the summit between the USA and North Korean leaders and hoped the two countries could reach a basic consensus on achieving denuclearisation. But we'll be saving a tremendous amount of money.

I pay my high compliments for the courage and determination of the two leaders, President Trump and Chairman Kim, not to settle for that outdated and familiar reality but to take a daring step towards change.

The US side seeks denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula under terms that give US and global authorities broad power to inspect nuclear reactors in North Korea at any time they choose to verify parts of a potential denuclearization agreement.

But a joint statement signed at the end of their historic summit in Singapore gave few details on how either goal would be achieved.

The president said he and Kim "got along from the beginning" and the North Korean leader realized that he must get rid of his nuclear weapons. It's "stunning" and "not to be minimized in any way", but it's also important to remember that "Kim Jong Un has given up nothing at this point". Trump described the exercises as "very provocative" and said Pyongyang "very much appreciated" seeing the exercises end.

The document is broken down into four key points, saying: "1".

Trump on Tuesday announced joint U.S.

"4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains including the immediate repatriation of those already identified".
