Microsoft's E3 2018 conference shows that Xbox is (sort of) back

Besides the Bethesda show, there were also E3 conferences from Microsoft and Devolver Digital yesterday-not to mention EA's expo-starting conference the day before. It has acquired U.K. -based Playground Games and has letters of intent to buy Ninja Theory of Cambridge, U.K.; Undead Labs of Seattle; and Compulsion Games of Montreal. Beyond new games, though, Microsoft announced the acquisition of four game development studios as well as the opening of a new fifth internal studio.

O'Connor also revealed in a couple subsequent posts that Halo Infinite will feel like a new adventure and be a good starting point for newcomers to the saga.

Microsoft's Xbox division is laying the groundwork for a game streaming service that zaps games directly to any device, whether it be your console at home or your phone on-the-go.

Of those, 18 titles were tailored exclusively for the Xbox console. It's likely that Microsoft is working just as closely with AMD's RTG team as Sony to develop its new hardware. Aged developer From Software, famous in recent years for its work on the Souls series, announced Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

"The world of gaming is on a historic growth path", Spencer said at an Xbox media event ahead of the formal start of the Electronic Entertainment Expo here this week.

Microsoft officials said the company is building a new Santa Monica, Calif. -based studio which it's calling "The Initiative."

The game is set to come out on August 10, 2018. Perhaps even slightly humbled by the lessons it's had to learn this gen, it's stacking the deck for the next battle for gamers' hearts - and it's a battle it just might win.
