Beyond the prizes, Oscar-winning actor Robert de Niro pulled no punches when he delivered an expletive-laden denunciation of US President Donald Trump during the live television broadcast.

Robert De Niro brought down the house at the 2018 Tony Awards with two words - "F**k Trump!".

"Nobody's talking to you anymore", Gutfeld said on De Niro, paraphrasing one of the actor's most famous lines. "The hypocrisy of the left". "I can't believe De Niro did that", Kushner said.

De Niro was much more candid at the Tony Awards on Sunday night, earning a standing ovation for expletives aimed at the USA president.

The 74-year-old actor introduced a performance by Bruce Springsteen, and took the opportunity to denounce Trump in NSFW language. Trump disavowed a joint G7 statement and called Trudeau "dishonest" on Twitter shortly after leaving the meeting, adding that the US will look at automobile tariffs on Canada.

"It's no longer "Down with Trump".
