Riz Ahmed to co-write the screenplay for Ms Marvel

17 May 2018

Actor Riz Ahmed has offered to write the screenplay for Miss Marvel, the comic featuring Muslim teenage superhero Kamala Khan.

Ms Marvel was created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona.

He explained she is "another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel".

Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel is a Pakistani-American teenager living in New Jersey who finds she has exceptional shape shifting abilities and decides to become a super heroine following in the footsteps of her idol, Carol Danvers who is Captain Marvel.

The runaway success allows kynoselen Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige to remove nearly anything.

"Captain Marvel's shooting right now with Brie Larson", he said. "We have plans for that once we've introduced Captain Marvel to the world". Along with new Spider-Man Miles Morales, Kamala Khan is one of the most celebrated new characters to hit superhero comics in the last decade, so people were excited.

Riz asked the comic studio when they'd like him, Mindy and Kumail to get started on the screenplay for a film for Ms. Marvel.

Marvel Studios' CEO Kevin Feige spoke about the possibility of the Muslim superhero coming to the big screen earlier this month with BBC. I am obsessed with this comic book, I've read them all.

Given their respective backgrounds (Ahmed is British-Pakistani, Kaling has Indian heritage and Nanjiani is Pakistani-American), it's obvious Ahmed wants to have a diverse creative team who can do justice to Kamala's story. This definitely has us excited!
