A deadly explosion at a California medical facility that killed the owner of a day spa was likely caused by a device and was not accidental, authorities said Wednesday.
From a Sheriff's Department news conference at noon: The victim was IIdiko Kranjnyak, 40, who owned the day spa in the building. A USA official briefed on the investigation, speaking on condition of not being identified by name, told The Associated Press the explosion is being investigated as intentional and investigators believe the blast may have come from a package. "Although the damage was extensive, there are some components that we have located at the scene of the explosion that are inconsistent with what one might expect to find at this business".
He said those items were being shipped to the FBI's crime lab for analysis. The items were sent back to the Federal Bureau of Investigation laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, for testing, and police would not comment on the specifics of what they found.

Irene White, a friend of Krajnyak's family, gave a brief statement outside her home late Wednesday. The neighbor said Krajnyak and her husband were separated but still living in the same house. It was unclear whether Krajnyak had been targeted, however, he said. Tony Bommarito, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
Bisom did not know them well and said there was nothing that stood out about them or their case.
The blast had blown off the side walls of the medical office building, exposing insulation and framing as well as damaging the first-floor suite. A third person was treated for smoke inhalation. In addition, investigators said they recovered materials at the scene that led them to believe it was not an accident.
Two of the wounded women suffered "severe" injuries and were taken to local hospitals, where they underwent surgery.
The Tuesday afternoon blast on the first floor of an Aliso Viejo building in Orange County shattered windows and forced children in a nearby daycare center to be evacuated.

Mary McWilliams tells the Orange County Register that she arrived for an appointment Tuesday in Aliso Viejo to find smoke surrounding the area and auto alarms going off.
"Then everyone started running out of buildings everywhere with looks on their faces of just horror", the woman said. Area residents said the flurry of activity has come as a shock to them.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the same block of Mareblu at 11:35 p.m. Monday for a "patrol check", according to sheriff's records. Both are expected to survive, Barnes said.
But the source also cautioned that it's early in the investigation.
Delacourt said investigators were still working to determine a motive and figure out exactly how the device was brought to the spa.
