17 May 2018

Thomas Markle was set to walk Meghan down the aisle during the church ceremony, and Ragland plans to ride to the chapel with her daughter.

Will Meghan Markle's father be at her wedding this Saturday to walk his daughter down the aisle?

Reports that Mr. Markle would not attend the wedding came Monday night from the American celebrity news website TMZ.

At the time, he said, "I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle".

She said the "positive photos" were meant to combat his "bad" portrayal in the press, and reiterated it was not done for money.

Royal watchers are waiting for an updated official statement from Kensington Palace.

"On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by vehicle to Windsor Castle", the statement said.

He had earlier petitioned doctors to discharge him, he said, although he has had no firm decision either way. We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I'll still find so much solace in her support. The father of the bride said, "This is a historic moment. I'd like to be a part of history", he was quoted as saying. He also said he had a heart attack several days ago.

On Monday evening, London time, Kensington Palace released a statement, saying this was a "deeply personal moment" for Meghan and Harry, who are already dealing with enormous pressure in the lead up to their wedding on Saturday.

"In the Charles and Diana days it was the war of the words played out in the newspapers via the couple's friends, so it's lovely to see that Harry and William, and by extension Meghan and Kate, are surrounded by such a tight group of friends".

"You've spent the last two years criticizing her, you called her a narcissist, selfish, that Hollywood changed her and that Prince Harry shouldn't marry her, yet you have the gall to blame media vultures".

But now it turns out his health, rather than embarrassment, will prevent him from being by her side.

Mr Markle's presence at the wedding had been the source of speculation since he allegedly staged paparazzi photographs of himself getting measured for a suit for the wedding and browsing news websites for stories on his daughter. Thomas Markle also had been expected to spend the days before the wedding meeting the queen and other members of his daughter's future family.
