Microsoft announces the Surface Hub 2

16 May 2018

Microsoft says it will begin testing it this year "with select commercial customers", and it will be available for purchase in 2019.

But the interesting thing with the Surface Hub 2 is that multiple displays can be connected together to make a single wall of slick screens, thanks to a removable webcam. It has 4K rotating cameras, speakers and the far-field microphone arrays Microsoft has been pushing (for Cortana).

MICROSOFT RECKONS IT'S GOT future office tech nailed down with the Surface Hub 2, a digital flip chart meets easel that looks like just the device for so-called "creatives" to show off their work.

"The new Surface Hub 2 is sleeker, more agile and more affordable to fit any workspace or work style", stated Panay. While it still hasn't succeeded with smartphones, Microsoft's Surface Pro and Surface Book are unbelievable devices.

Dynamic Collaboration is a new feature that lets two team members actively collaborate on the same project at once using one Surface Hub 2 device. So it'll look and act like one massive Surface tablet. The whole idea of a Surface Hub was to make collaboration and videoconferencing much more efficient.

Microsoft launched Surface hub back in June 2015.

With this new hardware, we are also seeing Microsoft push the 'Microsoft 365′ branding as well.

The amount of partner involvement with the Surface Hub 2 is expected to increase from the original version, which had a specialised partner base due to its requirements, such as the need for reinforced walls to install the 84-inch version, Seiler said.

The device will feature a "greater than 4K display", though the specific screen resolution isn't being released.

Microsoft is also addressing a complaint we've heard a few times about the first generation-its lack of portability-and is partnering with Steelcase to develop an official line of rolling stands and mounts.

The giant screen will run Windows 10, and although Microsoft has not yet said how much they will cost, the previous version sold for $22,000. This device brings out the best bits of the Surface Hub 1 and advances all the parts that needed advancing.

Of course, it was designed with Microsoft apps in mind, including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, Office 365 and Windows 10 - it's not clear how other platforms will work beyond simply Skyping in.
