Overwatch Anniversary 2018 Event Announced; Legendary Edition Revealed

14 May 2018

What's more, all previously released seasonal cosmetic items, and "most" of the prior brawls for Arcade (on a daily, rotating basis), will be back for the new anniversary event.

Overwatch will be celebrating its 2-year anniversary from May 22 through June 11, and during that time you'll be able to pick up a slew of new goodies, including 50 new cosmetic items, 8 Legendary skins, and 3 epic skins. It will include 15 skins of Legendary and Epic rarities, as well as the exclusive skins from the Origins edition. The new Deathmatch map Petra will also include a brand-new Competitive Mode with placement matches, skill rating tiers, and leaderboards.

Blizzard will be hosting a free weekend of Overwatch on PC, Xbox, and Playstation from May 25th to May 27th. Loot box shennanigans not included, I've gotten a lot of playtime out of it. These seasonal events keep players engaged and encourage them to buy more loot boxes, which keeps Overwatch profitable for Blizzard long after its debut. So far, the only new skin that's been revealed is Pirate Junkrat.

Blizzard has yet to officially announce anything, but it seems that the Overwatch Twitter page in Brazil accidentally published a 20-second trailer confirming the upcoming event.

Overwatch is turning two years next week and just like last year's anniversary celebration, there will be another one this year and it should come with a range of new skins and possibly a new game mode as well. Everyone who logs in during the event gets one free loot box that guarantees a Legendary-level item.
