In part, it recounts his role in investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election and Democrat Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server that contained classified information, as well as Comey's private discussions with Trump before the president fired him last May.
Speaking on Fox Business Network early Monday, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said "the fix was in" against Trump and questioned why Comey waited two months after the election to conduct the briefing if he was so concerned about Russian influence on the campaign. "Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the bad job he did-until he was, in fact, fired", Trump wrote in a Twitter tirade.
Comey's book is a scathing depiction of his interactions with Trump, in which he likens the president to an "unethical" mob boss and casts his inner circle in largely unflattering terms. "Donald Trump's presidency threatens much of what is good in this nation", Comey writes. Comey, Trump tweeted, "was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job".More news: Twitter down? 'Something is technically wrong,' site says
Those events have been well documented by Comey and the news media, but that doesn't mean the book won't make news. He didn't have any insight into the case, at least as far as I know, more than anybody reading the newspaper did, which was zero 'cause there were no leaks.
Trump accused Comey of lying to Congress and exonerating Hillary Clinton in a 2016 investigation because of her strong poll numbers in the presidential race. Comey said an unverified dossier assembled by former British spy Christopher Steele had no impact on triggering the investigation.
Oh, and don't forget that Comey in May 2017 essentially stage-managed the disclosure of a memo detailing how Trump had suggested that he drop an investigation into departed national security adviser Michael Flynn. Comey said, "I think it's possible".
Even liberals who will never forgive Comey for his actions during the election don't think he's dishonest.
While there are still some unanswered questions, of course, ABC's Sunday night telecast told the Comey tale from start to finish.More news: Facebook class action lawsuit over facial recognition OK'd by judge
Then, when asked about Trump's relationship with Putin, he said, "I don't know what's behind that".
Trump also attacked Comey for saying in the book that political considerations may have driven him to reopen the Clinton investigation in the last days of the election campaign.
The interview escalated the ongoing battle between Comey and the president, who just hours had tweeted that his former FBI director was "slimeball" and "the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!"
Trump and his loyal White House aides in turn lashed out at Comey, with the President virtually threatening him with jail time for "lying" to Congress, and suggesting that he and other establishment personnel from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which he called a "den of thieves and lowlifes, " were in cahoots with Democrats and "committed many crimes". Comey remembered Trump saying, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go".
"Usually you don't have anybody in the FBI talking about ongoing investigations", Anderson said, adding that "if Jim says something in one interview, then says something in his book thats different, then gives a different version of it in another interview, and they use him as a witness which I'm sure they will, then that could become a problem" for the Russian Federation investigation.More news: India Protests Over Pakistan Denying Consular Access to Sikh Pilgrims
