OnePlus 5T Gets iPhone X Like Gesture Navigation With OxygenOS 5.1.0

17 April 2018

Close on the heels of the impending launch of the OnePlus 6, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has rolled out the latest software update for its 2017 smartphones, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

The OnePlus 5T will get full-screen gesture support, while the OnePlus 5 with its standard ratio display will not receive it for now. OnePlus had released Android 8.1 Oreo in form of an OxygenOS Open Beta update a while back for both devices, and after filtering some bugs and what not, the update is now stable, and ready for pretty much everyone it seems. We already covered the Razer Phone's 8.1 rollout yesterday and now, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are joining the list, bringing along OS improvements, security improvements and a new "gaming mode".

The face of Oreo Update in Android smartphones has begun to a full stretch. If you want to get it right away you can use the old VPN trick: change the server location to Canada and check for updates after. However, if you cannot wait to upgrade your 5/5T with this update, you can check for it manually by heading over to the Settings System updates menu. Optimisations in the gaming mode include power saving and pausing adaptive brightness. This isn't applicable to the OnePlus 5, since the phone has off-screen hardware-based navigation keys below the screen.

Amid the fanfare surrounding the launch of OnePlus' upcoming flagship smartphone of 2018, one might tend to forget the fact that it has been less than five months since the launch of the OnePlus 5T in India.
