You can now pair your Google Home to other Bluetooth speakers

29 March 2018

Google is finally bringing the ability to use all Bluetooth speakers with its Home line of smart speakers.

So you can then say something like, "Hey, Google, play the workout playlist" and it should start playing through the Bluetooth speaker. Once this is done, you can either have your Bluetooth speaker replace audio output from your Google Home or add it to an audio group and quickly get multi-room audio.

However, all things considered, this is a huge boost for Home owners with additional Bluetooth speakers.

The Bluetooth pairing is available for the entire Home range, including the new Mini and Max speakers outed towards the back end of past year.

You don't even have to specify the speaker: By making it the default audio projector, just use the Home-standard "Hey Google" prompt and voice-command away. You can pair a Bluetooth speaker located in the living room with the Mini, and have audio play from both at the same time. It was rumoured to roll out sometime in 2018 and it looks like the extension of the smart speaker's existing Bluetooth capabilities is now rolling out today.

This provides the advantage of being able to control multiple speakers through Google Home with voice commands or via the app. Google notes that this was a highly asked for feature from Google Home Mini users that wanted to extend the sound from their tiny device. Open the Google Home app on your smartphone and head to Device Settings by tapping the icon in the upper right-hand corner. Afterwards, any command given to the Assistant device will automatically play audio through the set speaker.
