Orbitz Reveals Breach of 880000 Payment Cards

The travel-booking site operator said that during an investigation of an older Orbitz.

In what may be the mother of all invasions of privacy, Facebook revealed that a United Kingdom analytics firm scraped the data of 50 million of its users without their permission. Additionally, they are providing partners with complimentary customer notice support for partners to inform their customers, if necessary.

And it was only Tuesday.

The business was acquired by Expedia for US$1.6 billion in February 2015, nearly 12 months before the first breach occurred.

The company, which is owned by Expedia, said the current site, Orbitz.com, wasn't affected. The company said evidence suggests an attacker may have accessed information stored on this consumer and business partner platform between October 1, 2017 and December 22, 2017. "As part of our investigation and remediation work, we brought in a leading third party forensic investigation firm and other cybersecurity experts, began working with law enforcement, and took swift action to eliminate and prevent unauthorized access to the platform".

Orbitz is notifying customers and partners about what personal information may have been accessed in the incident.

An attacker may have accessed users' full name, payment card information, birthdate, phone number, email address, physical address and gender, although the company does not have "direct evidence" that such personal information was actually taken.

Orbitz says one of its older websites may have been hacked, potentially exposing the personal information of people who made purchases online between January 1, 2016 and December 22, 2017. Orbitz says it can't confirm whether any of the information was removed from its platform but assured there was no evidence suggesting passports, travel itineraries, or social security numbers were stolen.

The company said that hackers potentially compromised information on the consumer platform that was used to make purchases between January 2016 and June 2016.
