The expected device is Redmi 5, which debuted in China previous year. Today's launch event will be livestreamed on the official Xiaomi India website and also on the company's YouTube channel.
The list of phones to receive the update include, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4, Redmi Note 4, Mi 4i, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi 5, Mi MIX 2, and the Mi Max 2. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively.

The powerful smartphone that comes at an affordable price has been promoted extensively by Xiaomi on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, coupled with 2GB, 3GB and 4GB of RAM. The Redmi Note 5 is priced at Rs 9,999 for 3GB+32GB version, and Rs 11,999 for 4GB+64GB version.
However, we like to remind our readers that some Xiaomi phones (both Mi and Redmi series), particularly low-end models, will not be able to get all the MIUI 9 features due to their hardware limitations. The company has launched two variants of the device in China, we can expect the same in India.

In India, Redmi 5 is expected to slot in between the entry-level Redmi 5A and the Redmi Note 5. Redmi 5 is backed by a 3300mAh battery and promises to deliver up to 12 days of standby time.
In terms of optics, the phone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, and PDAF. The device is expected to hit the India shores with nearly the same specifications.
