He praised allies in noting "we exceeded the expectations of nearly everyone with the DPRK maximum pressure campaign", and said that "much work remains to establish a clear view of the nature of our future relationship with China".
Tillerson did not immediately comment, but Steve Goldstein, the Tillerson aide who was sacked, said Tillerson wanted to stay as secretary of State. "With Mike Pompeo, we have a very similar thought process. We will be at the center of providing the intelligence picture to the president and to the secretary of state, so that each of them can understand how it is we can most likely achieve the president's objective".
During his post-firing speech on Tuesday, Tillerson, 65, neither mentioned Trump by name nor thanked him.
But the two men, who did not know each other before the election, never clicked.
Goldstein barely had time to get his feet wet in the State Department role-he was sworn in on December 4. "He will miss his colleagues at the the Department of State and the foreign ministers he has worked with throughout the world". Such statements caused that Godlstein himself was sacked by the White House, after officials told local media that Tillerson was told last Friday the decision made by Trump, which led to halt the agenda of his tour across Africa.
Tillerson's final departure date has yet to be determined, the officials said.
Steve Goldstein, undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, said that Tillerson was "unaware of the reason" for his firing and had not spoken directly with Trump. "Fawning over Putin is poor preparation for being the top diplomat of the United States of America".

And Tillerson sometimes took a tougher stance than Trump on Russian Federation - including this week, when he blamed Moscow for a suspected nerve agent attack in Britain.

Tillerson's sacking comes shortly after Trump, without consulting his top diplomat, chose to accept an invitation to talks with North Korea's Kim Jong-Un on resolving the Korean nuclear stand-off.
