Jail authorities should ensure proper security and safety as per rules, he said.
Karti Chidambaram was produced before Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday after his three-day CBI custody ended. The court also declined his request for a separate cell in Tihar jail, and protection inside the jail premises.
The CBI has sought 15 days judicial custody of Karti who in turn has asked the court to hear his bail plea today itself instead of scheduled March 15.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Karti, said even he has been subjected to abuses and threats on the twitter for which there has been often no recourse.More news: Retail inflation falls to 4.4 percent in February
CBI then argued in opposition to the plea for separate cell on the ground of "threats", and said if at all they were threats, they would be for P Chidambaram and not for Karti.
The judge, however, did not find reason to grant his plea for a separate cell, saying Karti can not be treated differently from the other accused just because of his and his father's social status.
"However, only keeping in view the fact of social status of accused and his father, he can not be treated different from other accused persons and can not be allowed to be kept in separate prison". The organisation investigating me should be concerned about my security. The second is to allow the CBI to bring the Mukherjeas to Delhi from Mumbai and identify the places where they met Karti Chidambaram.
"Since the bail application is already fixed for filing of reply/consideration on March 15, the present application is dismissed", the court said.More news: Cruz, O'Rourke respond to name-mocking ad
Special CBI judge Sunil Rana allowed Karti, who was arrested in the INX Media case, to carry his medicines, after the jail doctor clears it, and his spectacles, while rejecting his plea to have home food, toiletries and books. Karti will be now kept in remand till March 24. Bhaskararaman is now in jail due to a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Karti has been in the custody of the CBI since his arrest on February 28, which was supposed to end on Friday.
The CBI initially alleged that Karti received Rs 10 lakh as bribe for the FIPB clearance. The FIR alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of about Rs 305 crore in 2007 when his father was Union finance minister.More news: First ever MacBook Air with Retina Display leaks alongside affordable MacBook
