Church officials say a gay schoolteacher has been fired by a Miami Catholic school after marrying her same-sex partner in an apparent violation of church rules.
A popular teacher at a Miami Catholic school has been fired after posting pictures of her wedding online.
The protesting parents praised Morffi as a great teacher and said they didn't care about her sexual orientation. Officials with the Archdiocese of Miami confirmed Morffi's termination and said that she was sacked for breaking her contract, which includes a moral turpitude clause, according to WPLG.
Archbishop Thomas Wenski released a memo, following Florida's lift on same sex marriage in 2015, that placed emphasis on the city's policy.
Florida does not have a statewide law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. But a Miami-Dade County ordinance does exempt religious institutions from certain provisions.

'I think it's shocking that in this day and age this continues to happen in South Florida, ' said Tony Lima, executive director of the South Florida LGBT rights group SAVE.
The teacher was identified as Jocelyn Morffi who taught first-graders at Sts.
'It's important to continue educating the community that this kind of stuff happens in this day and age.
Morffi refused to do so, and she was sacked the next day.
Mary Ross Agosta, a spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Miami, confirms that Morffi was sacked because "she broke the contract she signed when she began teaching at a Catholic school". "If that contract is broken, that is grounds for dismissal", a spokesperson for the Archdiocese told 7News.

Reports state parents are now seeking an answer from the school as about 20 of them gathered at Sts.
"Its the Catholic church and they dont allow lesbians nevermind gay marriage", one person said.
Morffi took to Facebook to express her disappointment.
Cynthia Cini, the mother of a student. said: "You know, to be a Catholic, you're taught to be forgiving". She never imposes her personal beliefs on others.
But after she married the love of her life, her employment was abruptly terminated.
