Amazon Taps NBC's Salke To Lead Amazon Studios

11 February 2018

Amazon Studios has been working to shake up its programming lineup in the absence of a permanent chief since October, when Roy Price resigned after a sexual harassment allegation.

Amazon Studios, the entertainment and production unit that develops and creates shows for Amazon's streaming video service, has tapped Jennifer Salke as president. In her new role, Salke will report to Jeff Blackburn, Amazon's Seattle-based senior VP of business development and digital entertainment. "She's built an impeccable reputation as a big leader who emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and teamwork".

In addition to Price's departure last fall, a handful of other TV and film executives have left Amazon in recent months, including former original TV series head Joe Lewis.

"Of course, this is also bittersweet for me".

"It's an exciting time to be a content creator, and I look forward to being on the front lines of an innovative business with storytelling at its heart", she added.

Salke, who now serves as president of entertainment for NBC, will leave the broadcaster in the coming weeks. Salke developed a number of hit shows over her career, including This Is Us and the Chicago franchise at NBC, while she oversaw development of Glee and Modern Family during her prior tenure at 20th Century Fox TV.
