Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds To Star In Detective Pikachu Movie

Fresh off the set of smash sitcom Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place, Ryan Reynolds has signed on to star in the forthcoming live action Pokemon film, Detective Pikachu.

While the flick's full cast is being kept mum for now, THR shares Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Justice Smith will star as well as Big Little Lies' Kathryn Newton. He'll bring his talents to this film that's helmed by director Rob Letterman, who's no stranger to family animated comedies, with his resume that includes Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale. Anything. So he's shifting gears away from his typically dirty fare and starring as Pikachu in the live-action Pokémon movie Detective Pikachu.

Filming on the project is expected to start soon. This actor is none other than Ryan Reynolds most made famous for being Deadpool.

While not every Pikachu is a detective, the one that is Detective Pikachu is especially "good at finding things". It's reported the role is motion-capture using Reynolds as the character. The team is later joined by a spunky journalist (Newton) who helps them on their mission.

In addition, Universal Pictures is named a distributor of the film outside Japan, whereas Toho will handle distribution there. Which, for those who have played the first chapter of the game the film is based on, is following that basic plot line. Let us know in the comments!
