Chinese state-run daily publishes nuclear war safety tips

As U.S. and South Korean military units conducted an annual air power exercise over the Korean Peninsula, China's air force reportedly staged exercises in "routes and areas it has never flown before" over the Yellow and East Seas.

North Korea successfully launched a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) last week, following which the country declared that it had "realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force".

"Through the exercise, the South Korean and US air forces have demonstrated the alliance's strong will and capability for strong retaliation against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats", South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, USA Today reports. Yet the Air Force claimed that the drills were "not in response to any incident or provocation" and pointed out that the US and South Korea carry them out every year.

Hawaii is reassuring tourists about its air-raid drills, which have reinstated due to growing tensions between the U.S. and North Korea.

North Korea hates the B-1 bomb runs and have threatened to shoot the plane down.

Hundreds of aircraft including two dozen stealth jets began training Monday as the USA and South Korea launched a massive combined air force exercise.

The U.S. -South Korea drills coincide with a rare visit to the isolated North by United Nations political affairs chief Jeffrey Feltman.

He and vice foreign minister Pak Myong-Kuk discussed "cooperation between the DPRK and the UN Secretariat and assistance from UN agencies to the DPRK and other matters of mutual interest", the North's KCNA news agency reported, using the acronym for the country's official name.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in will visit China next Wednesday for a summit with his counterpart Xi Jinping, Seoul's presidential Blue House said.

The US and South Korea kicked off the five-day war games - called Vigilant Ace - on Monday, with more than 200 aircraft, which have been conducting mock attacks on North Korea in different war scenarios.

It lists the five destructive forces of a nuclear detonation: electro-magnetic pulses, early nuclear radiation, blast waves, light radiation and radioactive pollution, reports the Independent. -South Korean war games, which it claims are invasion rehearsals.

However, it is standard practice for the USA to send two B-1Bs to the peninsula after North Korean provocations. Additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea today. China has previously condemned North Korea for launching test missiles and, three months ago, backed United Nations sanctions against the country after a significant nuclear test.
