Queens woman found dead with throat slashed in Jamaica

The mother of an aspiring model from NY, who was found murdered in Jamaica earlier this week, believes her daughter may have been set up by someone she knew on the island.

Gibbon was a native of Hollis in Queens, New York. She graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside.

Desiree Gibbon who was nicknamed "Desi" was an aspiring model. The tabloid reports that Gibbon was due to fly back to NY on November 28 in order to work at a record label that was run by a friend.

According to the police, Gibbon arrived in Jamaica on the 20th October and was given a three months stay in the country.

Gibbon's family now has to travel to the Caribbean island to retrieve her body.

Gibbon, who was born in the United States, had been in Jamaica on a three month visa, the news website said. She wanted to direct movies. "So, she was comfortable with these new people she had met". "We'll go there. I don't know how that will be".

"There are just no words for this tragic event".

Cali-Gibbon noted that her daughter loved to travel and experience other cultures. She didn't want us to pay for it. Cali-Gibbon added that Gibbon wanted to work as a bartender on the island as a means to save money to attend film school in Europe.

The 26-year-old's aunt created a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses and to have Gibbons' body brought back to New York City. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with costs. I asking you all to please help me and my sisiter [sic] at this very difficuylt [sic] and heartbreaking time. I know she fought until she drew her last breath. You have given me the best memories and I thank god I had a friend like you!

The page has raised more than $18,000 of its $20,000 goal from 314 donors, so far.

It's not clear why she was killed and no arrests have been made in the case.

Gibbon, who grew up modeling and competing in beauty pageants, was looking for work in Jamaica's tourism industry, the Daily News reported.

The coroner's office is conducting an autopsy to determine how Gibbon died.

Pottinger was stabbed to death and according to reports, neighbors had heard a man screaming for help but no one came out to help or called the emergency services.
