05 November 2017

SC will host Florida at home.

"The team has done a good job", head coach Kirby Smart said.

Asked whether winning the East would be significant, Smart said: "Yeah, the only thing that's significant right now is I get back over there, talk to these recruits and get ready for Auburn".

Nick Chubb ran for 102 yards on 20 carries for Georgia.

"We're not really thinking about that", he said. "We're controlling what we want to do". "We let everything else handle itself".

Georgia will officially play in Atlanta on December 2.

Georgia has used three key ingredients in racing to an 8-0 start heading into Saturday's home game against SC, but now the Bulldogs will have to add focus into the equation after rising to No. 2 in the national rankings and being placed No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. "It makes the game easier on Saturday if we make it hard on them during the week".

Georgia lined up between the hedges in a November game as the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Bulldogs have not won the SEC since 2005 and dropped the title games in both 2011 and 2012.

"Let's make some noise for the No. 1 team in the land - the Georgia Bulldogs", Sanford Stadium P.A. announcer Brook Whitmire implored fans as the team ran onto the field prior to kickoff. Regardless of the outcome in that game, the Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0 SEC) will play the SEC West champion in Atlanta for the conference title game on December 2.

Auburn beat Texas A&M 42-27 on Saturday, and Georgia defeated SC 24-10 to claim the SEC East title.

Georgia was favored by 23.5 points, but was in a contest until the end.

They finished with their second-lowest point total of the season and led by just 14-7 at halftime. "We've got a game to play against Auburn next week. Every team is going to come out and try to beat us".

Georgia-Auburn will be the second game of a CBS doubleheader following Florida-South Carolina at noon.

"That was a grind-like, workmanlike win", Smart said.

A 14-7 lead at the half ballooned to 21-7 thanks to a Fromm to Mecole Hardman 20-yard TD pass on the Bulldogs' first possession of the third quarter. He connected on 14 of his first 18 for 172 yards. "That's a good football team". SC stacked the defensive front but still gave up 242 yards rushing.

Saturday, the Bulldogs' first three scoring drives were all 10 or more plays and went 69, 75 and 75 yards.

Smart also said he had a personal relationship with Bentley, who completed 21 passes on 35 attempts for 227 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The Gamecocks were held to 43 yards rushing.

"We competed hard and you didn't see anyone give up or backing down", SC quarterback Jake Bentley said. It's about how we prepare, so we've got to focus on that first.

Georgia increased its lead to 24-10 on a 20-yard Rodrigo Blankenship field goal with 6:36 left in the game.
