Trump accused of disrespecting family of United States soldier killed in Niger

20 October 2017

President Donald Trump is continuing to reject a Florida congresswoman's account that he told the widow of a soldier killed in an ambush in Niger that her husband "knew what he signed up for".

It turns out the Florida Democrat who criticized President Trump this week for making insensitive remarks toward the widow of a fallen USA soldier doesn't exactly have a great track record herself when it comes to helping veterans.

Trump had faced criticism for not contacting the families of the soldiers killed in Niger right away.

After sleeping on it, Trump woke up early to set the record straight for his Twitter followers, claiming he has "proof" that Rep. Wilson "totally fabricated" what he said to the wife of the fallen soldier. Trump went so far as to drag White House Chief of Staff John Kelly's son from his deserved rest. Johnson, who was killed in Niger along with three other comrades, when she got a call from the president.

"I told him before he leave that I love him and make sure he come back to me", she said.

But Wright said Mr. Trump was cordial, and listened as he talked. The lesson of Sgt. Johnson's death shouldn't be about Trump's callousness any more than Wilson's craven politicizing. "And as I say, this gentleman has a brain disorder and he needs to be checked out".

That's according to Karin Robinson, former United Kingdom vice-chair of Democrats Abroad, who was speaking about allegations that Trump was insensitive towards a widow of a U.S. soldier. "But I guess it still hurt.' That's what he said", Wilson told CNN. "For him not to be with us anymore is just heartbreaking and devastating because I don't know what I'm going to do without him", Myeshia Johnson said of her husband, Sgt.

And some question why Trump would call a grieving family in the first place just to be rude? "Didn't say it at all, she knows it".

Walters also criticized the news media and accused reporters of using a "generous and sincere" gesture made privately by Trump to advance what she describes as a "biased agenda".

The serviceman's mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, told The Associated Press Wednesday that the congresswoman's account was correct. "Did not say what the congresswoman said, and most people aren't too surprised to hear that". She added that his cousins, who also went into the program, followed his example.

Johnson's mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, told The Washington Post that "President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband".

And then he added this: "If you look at President Obama and other presidents, majority didn't make calls".

I think at quite a visceral level this will hit home to Americans in a way that other Trump scandals have perhaps not.
