Jerry Jones Objects the National Anthem Player Protests

10 October 2017

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys has said that his players will not be allowed to play if they refuse to stand for the national anthem.

"A big salute to Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, who will BENCH players who disrespect our Flag", the president tweeted.

"If there's anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play", said Jones, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. "OK?"

"We can not in anyway give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag", Jones told the Morning News.

The topic was raised after Vice President Mike Pence left Sunday's game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers after more than 20 Niners knelt during the national anthem with their hands over their hearts, as was the case the previous week. Period. Period. We're going to respect the flag.

The 74-year-old Mr Jones said showing respect for the flag and the anthem is more important to him than any potential issues of team unity.

Mr Jones said the NFL, the US's most prestigious American football league, can not leave the impression it tolerates such behaviour. "We will not disrespect the flag".

"It is a source of enormous pride that some of the best conversations about these issues have taken place in our locker rooms in a respectful, civil and thoughtful way that should serve as a model for how all of us can communicate with each other", the NFLPA continued. The team stood and locked arms during the Star Spangled Banner.

It's time more people took a stand as others kneel or sit in rejection of America. Jones is not a member of the six-owner committee charged with negotiating a deal, yet his influence is so great that he is "a de facto seventh member", according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

"Spoke to Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys yesterday".

Jones was not the only National Football League owner taking a different approach Sunday to player protests during the anthem.

"Trump has made [standing for anthem] about patriotism", Ross said before the Dolphins game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. It was reported on Sunday night that he would be willing to stand if given a new job, but those reports were later revealed as false.

USA Today reports that Cowboys defensive linemen Damontre Moore and David Irving said they held up a fist Sunday at the end of the national anthem. Jerry is a victor who knows how to get things done. I know what he thinks. "They don't think it's disrespecting the flag".
