Moto X Play Android 7.1.1 update reportedly released in Brazil

29 September 2017

This comes in the backdrop of Motorola taking a rather long time to roll out Android updates to its eligible devices.

Apart from providing Moto X Pure Edition users in the United States the Android Nougat update, the Lenovo-owned company has also recently released the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Moto X Pure series in Brazil. While the company previously had a reputation for quickly sending out major firmware updates, that wasn't the case for this particular handset. The Moto X Play is a mid-ranger launched in 2015 and got Marshmallow in 2016 and Nougat just now.

As of now, there are still many popular devices such as the Moto X Play, Moto G4 Play, and Droid Maxx 2 that are still waiting for firmware updates from a year ago.

Also, this update will be the last new OS pushed by the company as Motorola has confirmed no Oreo for the Moto X Play. The company hasn't made any formal announcement about this software rollout yet, but many Moto X Pure Edition owners in the U.S. are now reporting that they have received this update on their device. It has now started seeding the firmware to the Moto X Pure Edition after months of waiting, according to a report by AndroidPolice. Although, Motorola has skipped 7.0 altogether and included v7.1.1 in the OTA to make up for late timing. So, we never know when Motorola will release the Nougat update to its eligible handsets.
