Ronald Koeman confident of securing Gylfi Sigurdsson for Everton

12 August 2017

Paul Clement is confident Fernando Llorente will remain a Swansea City player and not follow Gylfi Sigurdsson out of the door.

"We are not in a hurry but finally we hope to do the deal". "I'm confident he will because of the conversations I've had with Fernando".

"We have the experience of what we need to pay for players who came here and had one year of contract".

Swansea must now put an end to the situation as soon as possible, collect their £45 million and reinvest to create a stronger squad to embark on what is going to be another tough season in the Premier League. His goals were vital and we want to have him as an option.

Sigurdsson's future would appear to be on Merseyside, with Everton boss Ronald Koeman again claiming that the deal for the 27-year-old playmaker is "still close". I heard some rumours that talks had broken down but still we are in negotiations with Swansea.

As for Sigurdsson, Clement expects a replacement or two - Wilfried Bony and Nacer Chadli are on the club's shortlist - to arrive swiftly once a fee with Everton is agreed.

"I think the way it's going I think there needs to be more than likely a compromise on both sides". That is often how a deal is made'.

He pulled out of the club's tour to the United States and, although he has since taken a full part in training, he will not be involved at Southampton.

"But it is in the best interests that he (Sigurdsson) does not play on Saturday, and that is the plan. But I think that would potentially be a good partnership". "Talks are ongoing and I'm speaking to our chairman and owners every day for an update but there isn't a current conclusion to it at the moment".

'But what you can't do is control the decision-making of the other club.

Sigurdsson, whether he admits it or not, wants to leave to play European football and Swansea aren't going to get the best out of him again after this saga.

"Clearly we have done our research once those funds become available and we will be ready to act on them".
